This year\u2019s national theme for Take Our Children to Work Day is \u201cCount On Me!\u201d will share what it means to be dependable and teach children why dependability is important in the workplace, the community and in their education.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHEN: <\/strong><strong>Thursday, April 27,\u00a0<\/strong><strong>1:30 p.m. \u2013 3:30 p.m. (mock hearing will be held at 1:30 p.m.)<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>WHERE:\u00a0<\/strong>Orange County Administration Building<br \/>\nBoard of County Commission Chambers \u2013 first floor<br \/>\n201 S. Rosalind Ave.<br \/>\nOrlando, FL 32801<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHO:\u00a0<\/strong>Orange County employees and their children. Orange County\u2019s Parks &amp; Recreation mascot \u2013 Scooter \u2013 will be in attendance to interact with kids and take photos. In addition, details will be shared with students about the\u00a0Mayor&#8217;s \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.orangecountyfl.net\/BoardofCommissioners\/MayorTeresaJacobs\/LetsReadInitiative.aspx#.WPS4DGnyuUk\">Let&#8217;s Read Orange County Program<\/a>.\u201d Orange County Library will have library card registration available and the non-profit Just 1 Book will be onsite. This year\u2019s event is expected to host more than 100 County employees and their children.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Background:<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0 Designed to be more than a career day, the Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work program goes beyond the average practice of &#8220;shadowing&#8221; an adult. Exposing young citizens to what a parent or mentor does during the work day is important. Showing them the value of their education, helping them discover the power and possibilities associated with a balanced work and family life, providing them an opportunity to share how they envision the future, and allowing them to begin steps toward their end goals in a hands-on and interactive\u00a0environment is key to their achieving
