Employees from across the County joined the Orange County Public Works Department for their annual Pasta with a Purpose event on Sept. 19, 2018.<\/p>\n
Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs and Orange County\u2019s Director of Public Works Mark Massaro \u2013 who oversees the annual fundraising luncheon \u2013 welcomed more than 300 employees to the sold-out event.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am thrilled to see the passion and dedication of our hardworking Orange County employees,\u201d Mayor Jacobs said. \u201cTheir efforts to support Great Oaks Village is felt throughout the community, but most of all by the children that Great Oaks Village serves each day. It truly exemplifies our neighbors helping neighbors philosophy.\u201d<\/p>\n
The signature employee luncheon benefits Orange County\u2019s Great Oaks Village (GOV), a residential foster group home for children, 6 to 18 years old, who have been removed from their homes by the State of Florida due to abuse, neglect or abandonment.<\/p>\n
The relationship between Orange County Public Works and GOV spans 25 years. Pasta with a Purpose was started by a committee of Public Works staff. Over the last eight years the department has prepared a true Italian luncheon for employees with the highlight being the homemade sauce made by Massaro.\u00a0 The department organizes several fundraising events for GOV throughout the year, but Pasta with a Purpose is by far the division\u2019s largest fundraising event, raising more than $17,000 in 2018.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery year, our team is so fortunate that we are able to raise funds for these children in our own community,\u201d Massaro said. \u201cThis event has become a part of our employee\u2019s culture. As we move forward into the holiday season, our work is not complete until the kids at Great Oaks Village receive our care and attention.\u201d<\/p>\n
