{"id":11698,"date":"2018-12-21T16:32:58","date_gmt":"2018-12-21T21:32:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ocfl.net\/?p=11698"},"modified":"2022-01-12T12:10:52","modified_gmt":"2022-01-12T17:10:52","slug":"orange-county-fire-rescue-deploys-rappelling-elves-to-florida-hospital-for-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ocfl.net\/2018\/12\/orange-county-fire-rescue-deploys-rappelling-elves-to-florida-hospital-for-children\/","title":{"rendered":"Orange County Fire Rescue Deploys Rappelling Elves to Florida Hospital for Children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What better way to embrace the meaning of the holiday season than by having Orange County firefighters, posed as elves, rappel down the external wall of <a href=\"https:\/\/lp.floridahospital.com\/pediatrics-general\/?utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=cpc&amp;utm_term=florida%20hospital%20for%20children&amp;utm_campaign=Peds_General_FL_CM_17&amp;hcmacid=a054100000LLpRq&amp;gclid=CjwKCAiA0uLgBRABEiwAecFnk5_uRM1tSx4houtaU9nRGlR2odp2YZqJh7SAwrpb0NE1xJALVlaEhRoCn5kQAvD_BwE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Florida Hospital for Children<\/a> to deliver Santa Claus and his reindeer for a Winter Wonderland celebration.<\/p>\n<p>Operation Elf Rappel did just that, to the joy of the facility\u2019s young patients watching from the hospital\u2019s windows.<\/p>\n<p>On Dec. 12, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocfl.net\/EmergencySafety\/FireRescue.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Orange County Fire Rescue Department\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0(OCFRD) Special Operations Division coordinated Operation Elf Rappel and deployed two teams of OCFRD Special Access Climbers to complete their mission \u2013 to bring joy and happiness to the children in the hospital. The teams rappelled and carried personalized signs with special messages from Santa and his elves for the children within the units to see. Santa also joined in the fun, ascending atop a ladder truck to greet patients and families during a holiday celebration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOften, we don\u2019t interact with patients post admission to an emergency department,\u201d said Orange County Fire Rescue Department Capt. Greg Hubbard. \u201cWe know that these kids were just delighted to see Santa and his elves, but truly they don\u2019t realize how much joy they actually brought to us. Our holiday wish is simple, that the kids get all that their hearts desire.
