The increase of 4.2 percent over the prior year once again solidifies Orlando\u2019s lead position as America\u2019s most-visited destination.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitorlando.com\/en\">Visit Orlando<\/a>, the region\u2019s official destination tourism and marketing organization, shared the news as part of National Travel &amp; Tourism Week to a gathering of more than 1,000 tourism and community leaders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTourism plays an important and\u00a0integral role in our\u00a0local \u00a0economy,\u201d said Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings. \u201cWithout our guests, our region would not be recognized as the top travel and tourism destination in the nation. Our hometown hospitality is the reason why people keep coming back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Orlando reached a host of new milestones in 2018 including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Record number of U.S. visitors: 68.55 million (up 4.1 percent)<\/li>\n<li>Record number of international visitors: 6.48 million (up 5.4 percent )<\/li>\n<li>Record airline arrivals: Orlando International Airport maintained its position as the busiest airport in Florida, with 47.7 million passengers (up 6.9 percent )<\/li>\n<li>Record international airline arrivals: international arrivals reached 6.6 million passengers (up 11.64 percent)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cIt was another record-breaking year for Orlando with both domestic and international visitation,\u201d said Visit Orlando President and CEO George Aguel. \u201cWe saw strong gains from all of our core countries, particularly from Latin America.
