Demings<\/a> and the Board of County Commissioners recognized several deserving residents and organizations that continue to diligently to improve the quality of life in Orange County.<\/p>\n<p>Gislene \u201cGigi\u201d Moorman was awarded the <strong>Mayor\u2019s 2019 Distinguished Citizen of the Year<\/strong>. Moorman is the CEO of Raise Your Glass Enterprise, a local boutique event management company. She is also a licensed realtor and a board member of the Dr. Phillips YMCA and The Greatest Investments Girls\u2019 Empowerment Program. Additionally, Moorman is the co-founder of Space to Grow, a grassroots non-profit organization that supports women and children in Orlando.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/365795775?color=ffffff\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Other award winners included:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monica Harris Spires Excellence in Leadership <\/strong>\u2013 Michael Kulich, Turtle Creek Homeowners\u2019 Association, and Stephanie Lerret of Avalon Park.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Excellence in Neighborly Service \u2013 <\/strong>Compton Bell, Pine Hills Seniors, Inc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Excellence in Community Building Projects \u2013 <\/strong>Johnnie May Subbs, Plymouth Community Improvement, Inc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clean &amp; Attractive Neighborhood of the Year<\/strong> \u2013 Robinswood Middle School &amp; Robinswood Community Improvement Association<\/p>\n<p><strong>District Citizens of the Year <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>District 1 \u2013 <\/strong><strong>Lake Cane Restoration Society<\/strong><br \/>\nThis nonprofit organization was created to improve the environmental conditions of Lake Cane.<\/p>\n<p><strong>District 2 \u2013 <\/strong><strong>Merry Joe Morgan<\/strong><br \/>\nA voluntary neighborhood leader, Morgan has served as President of the People of Lockhart Community Association and President of Wekiva High School Band Boosters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>District 3 \u2013 Shirley Cannon<\/strong><br \/>\nWorking tirelessly to unify the community and preserve the history of Pine Castle, Cannon\u2019s efforts include graphic work, fundraising, writing newsletters and organizing events.<\/p>\n<p><strong>District 4 \u2013 <\/strong><strong>Janelle Adorno<\/strong><br \/>\nAs founder and director of the Orlando Dream Center in Taft, Adorno spearheads efforts by motivating community churches, individuals and business owners to join her in creating events that help families and children.<\/p>\n<p><strong>District 5 \u2013 <\/strong><strong>Mercedes \u201cMercy\u201d James<\/strong><br \/>\nJames is the founder and emeritus president of Los Amigos United, a nonprofit created to provide support to needy individuals worldwide.
