Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings<\/a> recently reconvened the Orange County Domestic Violence Commission<\/a>. The first meeting was held on Monday, October 21, 2019, during which the 21-member Commission discussed its broad vision, goals and objectives. The members will serve in an advisory capacity to assess gaps in services, identify significant issues and recommend solutions that will ultimately help the community reduce domestic violence incidents. From 2017 to 2018, Orange County saw a 10 percent increase in domestic violence arrests.<\/p>\n

For the first time in the history of the Commission, Mayor Demings appointed several domestic violence survivors to serve as members. He also appointed the Honorable Alice Blackwell, Ninth Judicial Circuit Judge, and Dick Batchelor to serve as co-chairs. Members provided their suggestions regarding issues they would like to focus on in future meetings in order to improve services to survivors and families impacted by domestic violence.<\/p>\n
