The \u201cAsk Orange County Government\u201d app\/skill through Alexa is an extension of the County\u2019s 311 service, which helps residents connect with local government services. Orange County is the first county in Florida to incorporate the Alexa virtual assistant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIncorporating this technology provides people with an easy and convenient way to ask questions about the County and access County-related information,\u201d said Peter Miller, Enterprise IT Security Manager. \u201cThere are thousands of questions already loaded on Alexa, and they\u2019re based on the most frequently asked questions that we have received through our 311 service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Orange County chose the Amazon Alexa platform due to its increasing popularity and market share, with more than 100 million devices on the market. You can ask Alexa thousands of questions and get informative responses, and the County plans to continue to add more knowledge to the virtual assistant as time goes by.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/387502513?color=ffffff\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Some of the questions people can currently ask, and get answered, include, \u201cWho is the mayor?,\u201d \u201cWho are the commissioners?,\u201d \u201cHow do I adopt an animal?,\u201d \u201cWhat can I recycle?,\u201d \u201cWhat do I do with yard waste?,\u201d and \u201cHow do I prepare for a hurricane?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Residents can set up the \u201cAsk Orange County\u201d Skill through Alexa by stating to Alexa:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u201cAlexa, Enable the Orange County Government Skill\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After enabling the skill, you can begin asking questions with a specific phrase:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u201cAlexa, Ask Orange County\u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe amount of information Alexa can provide is extensive,\u201d added Miller. \u201cFrom how to get a library card to how to get rid of mosquitoes, or from where to place trash bags to how to contact the Florida Forest Service, we have it covered and are continuing to add additional questions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Orange County Government in Florida now offers \u201cAsk Orange County Government\u201d app\/skill through Amazon\u2019s Alexa \u2013\u2013 a virtual assistant capable of voice interaction.
