On Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, hundreds of residents turned out to be a part of the dedication and unveiling of the Lockhart Community History Mural, located near the intersection of Edgewater Drive and Lake Lockhart. The historical mural has been six months in the making.<\/p>\n
Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings joined District 2 Commissioner Christine Moore, along with the Riverside Elementary School Chorus and Rhythm Drum Core, local artist Lisa Mikler and guitarist Bobby Sander for the momentous event.<\/p>\n
“I applaud the efforts of Commissioner Moore, the community and the artists for having the vision and passion to ensure this mural became reality,” said Mayor Demings. “This mural is something that we all value, and it will be something we will see in this community for many years to come,..”<\/p>\n
The four-panel mural depicts Lockhart from its early beginnings as a thriving lumber town on the Little Wekiva River, to a vision for its future. Commissioner Moore believes the mural represents the start of a \u201cnew Lockhart\u201d as she seeks to create a thriving \u201cdowntown\u201d district that includes businesses, attainable housing, and access to the new Florida Coast-to-Coast Trail<\/a>.<\/p>\n
