Thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocfl.net\/orangecares\">CARES Act funding through Orange County Government<\/a> and financial support from the community, the food bank has expanded into a new 20,000-square-foot facility, two miles from its main warehouse.<\/p>\n<p>Volunteers and staff at this new location, called <a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.com\/v3\/__https:\/www.feedhopenow.org\/site\/SPageServer\/?NONCE_TOKEN=5D8C68FB557126E52B413A3F6FB57CDF&amp;pagename=how_help_mercy__;!!Ivohdkk!zEkVN9nYc8eLlJLYZNKNkMchPo0UErIjx1jnIrWFawUzIojuRH2Nhneuw-lzzAYx$\">Mercy Kitchen<\/a>, support hunger relief efforts by producing more than 115,000 meals a week, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>7-Day Breakfast and Lunch Boxes<\/li>\n<li>Chef-inspired Family Meal Boxes<\/li>\n<li>Kids\u2019 meals for the Kids Caf\u00e9 Program and Summer Food Service Program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additionally, Mercy Kitchen is home to Second Harvest\u2019s social entrepreneurial endeavors, which have allowed the food bank to diversify its funding stream and continue providing necessary resources to help sustain hunger relief efforts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocfl.net\/mayor\">Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocfl.net\/BoardofCommissioners\/District6Commissioner.aspx\">District 6 Commissioner Victoria L. Siplin<\/a> attended an official opening ceremony for Mercy Kitchen with the community on March 31, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure residents in need have adequate access to healthy food during the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocfl.net\/covid19\">COVID-19 pandemic<\/a>, the Orange County Board of County Commission and Second Harvest implemented long-term support initiatives for the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year, the County Commission allocated $8 million to Second Harvest through the CARES Act funding to assist with their hunger relief and food distribution programs,\u201d said Mayor Demings. \u201cThrough the CARES funding, Second Harvest was able to utilize $650,000 to construct this new kitchen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before the pandemic, Second Harvest was preparing\/delivering 7,200 meals per day.
