{"id":16565,"date":"2021-05-14T16:17:25","date_gmt":"2021-05-14T20:17:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ocfl.net\/?p=16565"},"modified":"2022-01-12T12:06:57","modified_gmt":"2022-01-12T17:06:57","slug":"county-honor-business-compliance-strike-teams-for-protecting-local-businesses-during-the-pandemic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ocfl.net\/2021\/05\/county-honor-business-compliance-strike-teams-for-protecting-local-businesses-during-the-pandemic\/","title":{"rendered":"County Honors Business Compliance \u2018Strike Teams\u2019 for Protecting Local Businesses During the Pandemic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Orange County&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocfl.net\/EmergencySafety\/Coronavirus\/Coronavirus-BusinessResources.aspx\">Business Compliance \u201cStrike Teams<\/a>\u201d were created in July 2020 with the goal of helping local businesses achieve CDC compliance through the implementation of proper workplace guidelines and procedures to protect patrons and employees against the spread of the COVID-19 virus.<\/p>\n<p>There were five teams consisting of one staff member from Orange County Government Code Enforcement, Florida Department of Health in Orange County, and the Orange County Fire Marshal. The teams visited nearly 7,000 business owners and provided free face masks, hand sanitizer and signage during the course of 214 days.<\/p>\n<p>The teams experienced an overwhelming amount of support from business owners, achieving an overall compliance rate of 99 percent.<\/p>\n<p>In response to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis\u2019 executive order suspending all local government mandates, Mayor Demings retired the \u201cStrike Teams,\u201d that were primarily tasked with enforcing the County\u2019s face covering mandate through CDC guidelines. The Mayor and County staff recently honored the teams for their dedication to keeping residents and guests safe throughout the past year.<\/p>\n<p>Orange County has one of the lowest percentages of COVID-19 deaths versus cases in any other major metropolitan area in Florida.
