Orange County Government officials participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Dec. 2 to celebrate the grand opening of a 288-unit affordable senior housing community.<\/p>\n

The arrival of Sandpiper Glen, located at 8890 Donnybrook Dr., is another highlight for Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings\u2019 Housing for all Task Force, which prioritizes short and long-term solutions to address the affordable housing crisis countywide.<\/p>\n

\u201cProviding affordable housing is paramount to our residents,\u201d Mayor Demings said at the ribbon-cutting event. \u201cThis new affordable 288-unit development, which offers all the amenities, caters to seniors making 60 percent or less of the area’s median income. Today\u2019s ribbon cutting demonstrates what we can accomplish when we build better together.\u201d<\/p>\n

The grand opening event was organized by\u00a0Dominium<\/a>, the developer of Sandpiper Glen, and featured remarks by development team leaders, Demings, State Senator Carlos Guillermo Smith, \u00a0and State Representative Johanna L\u00f3pez.<\/p>\n

This marks Dominium\u2019s fourth new affordable housing community in Florida.<\/p>\n

\u201cSandpiper Glen represents the culmination of our ongoing collaboration with local and state officials to create a vibrant, high-quality, and affordable community for the seniors of Orange County,\u201d said Devon Quist, Vice President & Project Partner at Dominium. \u201cThese 288 affordable homes are just one more step in Dominium’s unwavering commitment to building affordable homes for the seniors and families of Orange County and Florida.\u201d<\/p>\n

All homes at Sandpiper Glen are available to rent at 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI) for seniors aged 62 and above. The four-story apartment building is comprised of 288 units \u2013 151 one-bedroom, 105 two-bedroom, and 32 three-bedroom apartments. The community\u2019s amenity package includes a dog park, outdoor pool, fitness center, a salon, bocce ball courts, and more.<\/p>\n

Since the Housing for All initiative began in 2019, Orange County has helped more than 2,927 affordable housing units move forward through impact fee credits, State Housing Initiatives Partnership Program (SHIPP) allocations, and local Housing Trust Fund commitments.<\/p>\n

Orange County\u2019s Housing Trust Fund is a funding source established by the Board of County Commissioners to incentivize developers to build affordable units. \u00a0The Board has committed $160 million into the Trust Fund for its first ten years.<\/p>\n
