While inspecting an apartment unit for a standard code issue on March 28, Harmoni Houser spotted three golden retriever mixes that were clearly malnourished and living in unsafe, abusive conditions.<\/p>\n
\u201cI knew something needed to be done,\u201d said Houser, who previously worked for Orange County Animal Services. \u201cThe dogs didn\u2019t look healthy. Their bones were protruding out of their back hips, their ribs were showing. One of them was walking sideways. I knew I needed to make a call.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trusting her instincts, she didn\u2019t hesitate to report the situation to the proper authorities.<\/p>\n
Animal Services responded quickly, and the dogs were safely removed from the abusive environment. They\u2019re now receiving the care, nourishment, and attention they need on their road to recovery.<\/p>\n
Orange County Sheriff\u2019s Office Agriculture Unit arrested the two owners on animal cruelty charges and a criminal investigation is underway.<\/p>\n
Thanks to Houser\u2019s sharp eye and kind heart, these three dogs are now safe, and have a much brighter future ahead.<\/p>\n
