Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs and the Board of County Commissioners recognized Winter Garden resident Sisaundra Lewis, finalist of NBC\u2019s The Voice, at the BCC meeting this morning with her family by her side.<\/p>\n

Proclaiming June 3 as Sisaundra Lewis Day in Orange County, the BCC recognized Lewis for positively representing Orange County on the national stage.<\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout the competition, Sisaundra Lewis demonstrated the qualities of perseverance, poise and respect for her fellow performers,\u201d Mayor Jacobs said. \u201cThe Orange County Board of County Commissioners commends Sisaundra on all her achievements, recognizes her for her extraordinary talents and wishes her every success in her professional career.\u201d<\/p>\n

Born in Polk County, Lewis is one of eight children and grew up singing in her father’s church. Since then, she\u2019s had phenomenal success as a singer, writer, producer and performer including being \u201cthe voice\u201d behind Cirque du Soleil\u2019s La Nouba for 10 years.<\/p>\n

She also worked as Celine Dion\u2019s vocal director in the past and was the featured narrator in the Oscar nominated documentary Sustaining Life. In September 2005, her debut single \u201cSHOUT\u201d hit the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Club Charts in its first week and immediately climbed to number one. She followed up this success with the release of her full-length album in 2006.<\/p>\n

On season six of The Voice, Lewis competed on \u201cTeam Blake\u201d and made it to the quarterfinals of the competition.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter being on a stage like The Voice and having access to so many millions of people weekly, I think many doors will open up for me,\u201d Lewis said. \u201cI don\u2019t know exactly what is next, but I know God has amazing things in store for me and I\u2019m ready to embrace that. I am so honored to be recognized by Mayor Jacobs and the Board of County Commissioners. I cannot thank my fans enough here in Orange County for all the support and motivation they have given me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lewis also greeted Sunrise Elementary School<\/a> students, from grades third through fifth, who were being recognized for their success at the Battle of the Books competition. The students won first place against other Orange County Public Schools in a quiz style contest where they answered questions about a variety of books that have been nominated for the Sunshine State Readers Award.<\/p>\n
