The University of Central Florida\u2019s College of Health and Public Affairs recently met with Mayor Teresa Jacobs and members of her administration to discuss how to strengthen partnerships between Orange County and the academic community.<\/p>\n

Leaders from UCF and Mayor Jacobs discussed enhancing civic engagement programs and internships to create a strong foundation for the region\u2019s future generation of leaders.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe Mayor Jacobs is a role model for good government and for students who want to pursue a career in the public sector. As a top government administrator in our region, she is always conscious of trying to do the right thing and improving the quality of life for Orange County,\u201d said Melvin Rogers, Associate Dean of the College of Health and Public Affairs. \u201cWe appreciate her continuous support of our programs and her staff\u2019s accountability to the public.\u201d<\/p>\n

UCF offers 212 degree programs and is one of the most dynamic universities in the country. More than 60,000 students, from 50 states and 145 countries, attend classes on UCF\u2019s main campus and its 10 regional campus locations.<\/p>\n

\u201cUCF\u2019s ascent is one of the great success stories in American higher education,\u201d Mayor Jacobs said. \u201cIn a relatively short time, UCF emerged from scrub pine and dirt roads to become a major metropolitan research university of global impact.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the meeting, college leaders described some of the exciting community-based activities and initiatives that involve Orange County Government and UCF. Current partnerships include:<\/p>\n
