Orange County\u2019s County Outreach Awareness Community Health (COACH) program made significant strides in 2025, dramatically expanding its reach and impact across the region. Operated by the Orange County Medical Clinic, COACH provided 2,843 free health screenings at 233 community events \u2014 a remarkable 182 percent increase from the previous year.<\/p>\n
These screenings check for high blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol \u2014 key indicators of cardiovascular health that, when left unchecked, can lead to heart attacks, diabetes and other serious conditions. The program\u2019s expansion has allowed thousands of residents to take important steps toward improving their health and preventing costly medical emergencies.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur goal is to improve community health by working with local partners to support underserved residents,\u201d said Brittany Pickren, program manager with the Orange County Medical Clinic\/Health Services. \u201cWe want people to know their numbers and take charge of their health before small issues become major problems.\u201d<\/p>\n
The COACH team visits food banks, faith-based organizations, homeless shelters, community centers and nonprofit partners across the County as part of its Know Your Numbers Campaign. During these visits, residents receive free health screenings, health education and referrals to the Orange County Medical Clinic Internal Medicine Residency Clinic and other community programs.<\/p>\n
For many residents, these outreach events remove barriers to care such as transportation, cost and insurance requirements. The screenings are open to all adults \u2014 no appointment, cost or eligibility criteria required.
\n\u201cBy bringing services directly into neighborhoods, we\u2019re reaching people who might otherwise go years without seeing a doctor,\u201d added Pickren. \u201cThis is how we ensure everyone, regardless of income or background, has the opportunity to achieve better health outcomes.\u201d
\nBeyond improving individual health, COACH events also strengthen community awareness and engagement. The team emphasizes the importance of prevention \u2014 catching high blood pressure or elevated blood sugar early allows residents to make lifestyle changes and seek follow-up care before conditions become critical.<\/p>\n
\u201cHealth screenings not only catch diseases like hypertension and diabetes early,\u201d explained Pickren, \u201cthey also give individuals peace of mind that their numbers are within a healthy range \u2014 or a chance to make adjustments if they\u2019re not.\u201d
\nThe COACH Team\u2019s ongoing success reflects Orange County\u2019s commitment to accessible, preventative healthcare for all residents.<\/p>\n
