Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs provided the welcome remarks for members of the fourth graduating class of the Orange County Experience at the Board of County Commissioners Chambers on Nov. 20.<\/p>\n
The 11-week educational program, which kicked off during the summer, provides citizens and community leaders the opportunity to learn more about Orange County Government and the vital services that the County provides to the region.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s graduating class consisted of 20 citizens who were provided an inside view of the internal operations of Orange County from technology and infrastructure to neighborhoods and health and family services. Orange County staff provided presentations and tours of the Convention Center, Fire Rescue, and Parks & Recreation.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter a busy and education-filled 11 weeks, I am proud to congratulate our fourth Orange County Experience class on successfully completing our citizens program,\u201d Mayor Jacobs said. \u201cThe Orange County team dedicates so much time and effort into bettering our community by providing citizens the opportunity to learn more about the vital services that we provide to our citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n
During the series, participants have the opportunity to meet staff and take tours of various Orange County facilities and departments. Graduates of the program often go on to serve on citizen advisory boards and continue their service through other volunteer opportunities.<\/p>\n
Alan Morrison, a citizen and graduate of this year\u2019s Orange County Experience program, enjoyed the class and encourages other citizens to participate in the program.<\/p>\n
\u201cI volunteer a lot and I give a lot of hours to the community, so it\u2019s good to see what goes on behind the scenes,\u201d Morrison said. \u201cIt was an eye-opening experience to see what services are provided to the citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n
