Students learned about the importance of being connected to their community and the value of becoming involved in their local government.<\/p>\n<p>Family &amp; Friends United is a program that Orange County resident Sharon Warner started locally more than 20 years ago. Sharon has a strong belief in the importance of families and friends coming together for a common cause. The program gives children the opportunity to learn how to better deal with challenging situations they may encounter at school and outside the home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to offer young people a chance to enjoy life and teach them how to deal with issues and problems,\u201d Sharon said. \u201cI feel that what I am able to do for children, their families and the community is my life\u2019s work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Family &amp; Friends also offers a free after school program for children in the community at Orlo Vista Park.
