The Orange County Board of County Commissioners recently unveiled roadway sign tributes to fallen hometown heroes Orange County Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Scott Pine and Windermere Police Officer Robert German. In 2014, both beloved officers tragically lost their lives to senseless acts of violence while in the line of duty.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur hearts remain broken for the parents, grandparents, sisters, brothers, fellow officers and friends of Deputy Pine and Officer German,\u201d said Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs. \u201cBy naming these roadways in tribute to these fallen heroes, they will serve as places of remembrance to Orange County citizens and visitors for many years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
Family members, friends, colleagues and community leaders gathered at two ceremonies in West Orange County where the new signs are located and will be seen by an average of 14,000 drivers daily. Deputy Scott Pine Memorial Roadway is located on S. Apopka Vineland Road and Officer Robert German Memorial Roadway is located south of Conroy-Windermere Road. Their names are also engraved on the Law Enforcement Memorial Monument in the courtyard of the Orange County Courthouse and on Tallahassee\u2019s Law Enforcement Memorial. Their names will soon be added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington.<\/p>\n
\u201cI’m grateful for this dedication,\u201d said Bridget Pine, Scott\u2019s wife. \u201cThank you to the community for showing our family support with this sign dedication. It will not only help the community remember his sacrifice – but it will also help my children remember their daddy.\u201d<\/p>\n
The signs also serve as symbols of gratitude to local law enforcement officers and will help the community recognize the selfless sacrifices officers make on a daily basis to ensure the safety of citizens.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are moved and deeply grateful,\u201d said Tim German, Robert\u2019s father. \u201cWe thank Mayor Jacobs and the Board of County Commissioners in providing permanence for our memory and the community’s memory of Robert German.\u201d<\/p>\n
