{"id":9323,"date":"2017-09-14T12:16:45","date_gmt":"2017-09-14T16:16:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ocfl.net\/?p=9323"},"modified":"2022-01-12T12:11:05","modified_gmt":"2022-01-12T17:11:05","slug":"major-disaster-declaration-orange-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ocfl.net\/2017\/09\/major-disaster-declaration-orange-county\/","title":{"rendered":"Hurricane Irma Major Disaster Declaration for Orange County"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Statement from Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am deeply gratified to announce that yesterday, Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, we were notified that Orange County has qualified for FEMA assistance through the Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Florida (DR-4337-FL).<\/p>\n<p>Orange County\u2019s Office of Emergency Management initiated the process for FEMA assistance on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017 at 7:00 p.m., with the submission of our preliminary application for FEMA\u2019s Individual Assistance program.<\/p>\n<p>We were able to complete that application on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, when we received the initial damage assessment from the Property Appraiser\u2019s office. Our Emergency Management team worked immediately to request that the Governor amend Florida\u2019s declaration to include Orange County. As a result of swift action locally and the immediate response by the Governor\u2019s office, Orange County was the first Central Florida county to be added to the Declaration.<\/p>\n<p>This is an incredibly important milestone for our community, and will allow individuals and households to seek <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ocfl.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/FEMA-IA-Fact-Sheet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Individual Assistance (IA) from FEMA<\/a> in order to recover from Hurricane Irma.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocfl.net\/EmergencySafety\/HurricaneIrmaRecovery.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Information is posted on our website about how citizens and households can apply for assistance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Other counties included in the Declaration: Brevard, Broward, Charlotte, Citrus, Clay, Collier, DeSoto, Duval, Flagler, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Indian River, Lake, Lee, Manatee, Marion, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, St. Lucie, Sumter, Volusia.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Extension of Emergency Executive Order<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Statement from Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On Friday, Sept. 7, 2017, I issued Emergency Executive Order #17-09 declaring a local state of emergency. This order allowed us to prepare for threats associated with Hurricane Irma. Today, I extended that order for 10 additional days.
