\"\"Orange County, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 Orange County Government\u2019s Facilities Management has won a 2019 Facilities Maintenance Decisions<\/em> Achievement Award in the area of Sustainability. Facilities Management Decision<\/em>s magazine is the leading publication for facility maintenance and engineering managers, presents these awards annually in order to recognize the essential role maintenance and engineering departments play in the safe, sustainable and efficient operation of the nation\u2019s institutional and commercial facilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cOrange County has a large number of facilities that need to be managed in order to maintain the highest level of professionalism, integrity and ethics, as well as achieve the highest standard of safety and sustainability,\u201d said Richard F. Steiger, manager, Orange County Facilities Management. \u201cWe undertook the challenge to reduce each building\u2019s environmental impact and alter the habits of its occupants to increase sustainability across the County, so we\u2019re honored to have received this award.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2015, Orange County\u2019s Facilities Management established goals of reducing both water and energy use 25 percent by 2020 and 50 percent by 2040. Targets were set at reductions of 4-6 percent annually. At the current pace, Orange County is set to exceed the established goals and become a role model for the community in the field of sustainability.<\/p>\n

Orange County Government operates more than 400 buildings, comprised of 5.5 million square feet that serve its residents and visitors. Orange County Facilities Management is responsible for the operations and maintenance of these facilities. Specifically, it is responsible for overseeing contract management, capital projects, energy conservation and sustainability, maintenance operations, worksite services, training and development, warehouse operations, and mail distribution. It currently has six maintenance districts with more than 160 skilled employees.<\/p>\n

Established in 2010, the Facilities Maintenance Decisions Achievement Awards<\/a><\/em> recognizes departments in four areas of facilities maintenance and engineering: Retrofits and Renovations; Sustainability; Financial Management; and Personnel Management. Winners will receive their awards at the National Facilities Management & Technology Conference\/Exposition<\/a> in Orlando on Nov. 13-14, 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
