Tangelo Park is a historically Black community with a proud heritage.<\/p>\n<p>The Tangelo Park Community Center is nestled into a mid-century modern neighborhood, located next to the Tangelo Park Elementary School with an adjoining outdoor recreation center. The site includes an indoor gymnasium and an outdoor pool that will be renovated. The newly constructed community center will feature a multipurpose meeting space, classrooms and offices, while the outdoor spaces will have solar gazebos for community use.<\/p>\n<p>The center&#8217;s main function will be to provide County social service programs and recreation. The Tangelo Park Community Center is designed to be a multigenerational gathering space to foster community growth through activities and events such as family events, farmer\u2019s markets, art shows and festivals. The Center is intended to be an extension of the home\u2014a safe place for all to draw together and feel welcomed.<\/p>\n<p>Possibilities for Public Art include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Art embedded in walls, floors or sidewalks<\/li>\n<li>Free-standing sculpture<\/li>\n<li>Kinetic sculpture<\/li>\n<li>Mosaic<\/li>\n<li>Mural<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Orange County is a rapidly growing metropolitan area of more than one million residents that contains the City of Orlando and a dozen other municipalities.\u00a0 We are a minority majority community with over 160 languages spoken in the public schools.\u00a0 A recent study indicates that by 2030 Orlando may be the most diverse major metro area in the world. The county values innovation, collaboration and inclusion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Site<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/emma-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/zrhcb\/b12e0a9dfe61d2fa00348c46b5b2c997\/Tangelo_Park_Site_Information.pdf\">Link to the Site Plan<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Possibilities for placement include: Art embedded in walls, floors or sidewalks. Art installed on the entrance wall. Sculptures or a sculpture garden on the front lawn or poolside. Murals in multipurpose room, gymnasium or poolside. Art that transitions from one space to another would be welcomed. Artist coordination with developer is required. Construction will begin in fall 2023, with the opening scheduled for summer 2024.<\/p>\n<p>For site specific information, please contact <a href=\"mailto:Dawn.Knight@ocfl.net\">Dawn.Knight@ocfl.net<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Budget<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>$29,100 has been approved for artwork.\u00a0 The selected artist(s) or team(s) will be awarded a comprehensive contract (or contracts).\u00a0 The artist will be responsible for artwork design, fabrication, materials, installation, insurance, travel, public presentations, meetings with Orange County staff as necessary, identification plaque, and all related incidental expenses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This opportunity is open to professional artists working in any appropriate media.\u00a0 Student artists may apply if they can secure an experienced public artist to serve as a mentor to oversee their work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Selection Process<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A selection panel consisting of the project manager, arts professionals, and community leaders will review artists\u2019 qualifications.\u00a0 Several artists will be selected to provide proposals and will be paid a stipend of $300 each for their proposal.\u00a0 Final artist(s) selection will take place after review of the proposals.\u00a0 The Arts &amp; Cultural Affairs Director serves as the non-voting Chair of the Selection panel.<\/p>\n<p>The Public Artist Selection Panel and Orange County reserve the right to reject any or all applications, proposals, applicants or projects, and to modify or terminate the application process or the selection process for any reason and without prior notice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Selection Criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Artists will be evaluated on artistic excellence as evidenced by submitted materials; professional experience; compatibility with the architectural design, facility environment and values of the county and this particular community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Submittal Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Orange County Arts &amp; Cultural Affairs uses the CaF\u00c9 online service for its public art selection process. The full application can be found at www.callforentry.org. There is no charge for artists to register with CaF\u00c9. <a href=\"https:\/\/artist.callforentry.org\/festivals_unique_info.php?ID=9613\">CALL LISTING URL<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Experience with public art projects with a similar budget is not required but helpful.<\/li>\n<li>Professional resume (teams must submit resumes for each member).<\/li>\n<li>Letter of interest, outlining interest in the project and a preliminary statement of approach.<\/li>\n<li>A minimum of one (1) image is required, and the maximum is 6. Images of finished works or conceptual drawings can be submitted.
