Interested applicants need not be a resident of Orange County but must meet all requirements per <a href=\"https:\/\/flsenate.gov\/Laws\/Statutes\/2025\/194.035\">Section 194.035, Florida Statutes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Special Magistrates may not be elected or appointed officials or employees of Orange County, of a taxing jurisdiction, or of the state. Special Magistrates may not represent a person before the VAB in any tax year during which he or she has served that VAB as a Special Magistrate. Qualified applicants must meet the following qualifications:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Special Magistrates appointed to hear issues of exemptions, classifications, portability assessment difference transfers and determinations that a change of ownership, a change of ownership or control, or a qualifying improvement has occurred shall be a member of The Florida Bar with no less than 5 years\u2019 experience in the area of ad valorem taxation.<\/li>\n<li>Special Magistrates appointed to hear issues regarding the valuation of real property shall be a state certified real estate appraiser with not less than 5 years\u2019 experience in real property valuation.<\/li>\n<li>Special Magistrates appointed to hear issues regarding the valuation of tangible personal property shall be a designated member of a nationally recognized appraiser\u2019s organization with not less than 5 years\u2019 experience in tangible personal property valuation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To apply for this position, visit the Value Adjustment Board Special Magistrates section of the Orange County Comptroller website at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.occompt.com\">https:\/\/www.occompt.com<\/a> and submit the completed application and required supporting documentation to <a href=\"mailto:vab@occompt.com\">vab@occompt.com<\/a> by <strong>Friday, April 24, 2026, no later than 5:00 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For questions, please contact the VAB Clerk via email at <a href=\"mailto:vab@occompt.com\">vab@occompt.com<\/a> or by phone at (407) 836-5447.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Orange County, Fla. \u2013 The Orange County VAB is seeking qualified attorney and appraiser Special Magistrates for the 2026 tax year.
