ORLANDO, Fla.\u2014February 21st, 2014\u2014Ernie, a 3-year-old male dog, has spent the past few weeks watching adopters walk past his kennel. Shelter staff and volunteers had been stumped as to why this lovable, smart dog had gone unnoticed by visitors. Due to a last ditch effort by the shelter, Ernie was shared on Animal Services\u2019 Facebook page and within two hours had found a new family.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to see the impact social media has with helping our shelter pets find forever homes,\u201d said Dil Luther, Division Manager of Orange County Animal Services. \u201cOur staff and volunteers have been pulling for Ernie for several weeks and are overjoyed to see him finally adopted.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nancy Brown, an Orlando resident, received Ernie\u2019s Facebook photo from her daughter and made a trip to the shelter. She interacted with Ernie and quickly fell in love. She cried tears of joy as she completed the adoption application.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe owe a big thanks to all of our Facebook fans who shared his picture and helped him find his way to Ms. Brown,\u201d said Luther. \u201cThis is definitely one post that\u2019s easy to like.\u201d<\/p>\n

Animal Services routinely utilizes social media to garner awareness for its life saving mission and shelter pets. While the shelter often finds homes through pets through social media, Ernie was by far the quickest turn around, with an approved adoption application completed within two hours of the post.<\/p>\n
