The program inspires young people from all over the country, ages 5 to 25, to plan and carry out public service projects.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Jacobs, Commissioners, and the National Director of the Jefferson Awards will present each honoree with a certificate. The top three winners will also receive a medal for their outstanding community work. Local participants, who include high school and college students, volunteered in 13 different projects that addressed issues like crime, hunger and poverty, protecting the environment, education and literacy, elder care, and health and wellness.
