The latest projected storm path indicates Orange County may be impacted late Sunday night through Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been more than a decade since the last major hurricane in Central Florida in 2004, so it\u2019s important for all residents to not be complacent and get prepared now,\u201d said David Freeman, manager of Orange County\u2019s Office of Emergency Management. \u201cSome residents new to the area have not experienced a hurricane previously, so we want to ensure everyone knows what they need to do to stay safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Freeman advises everyone to have a battery-powered weather radio, which is available at local hardware stores as well as Walmart and Target.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven if we don\u2019t experience a direct impact by the storm, residents should be aware of the possibility of tornadoes, thunderstorm squalls, flash flooding and microbursts,\u201d he said. \u201cWe are closely monitoring the situation and will provide timely updates as the situation develops.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Orange County Public Works will have sandbags available for citizen pick up (maximum 10 per vehicle) at all eight Maintenance Unit locations on Friday, Aug. 28 and Aug. 29, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. For information and locations, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocfl.net\/ocsandbagmap\">www.ocfl.net\/ocsandbagmap<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tips to remember:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Have an Emergency Plan<\/strong>Put together a <a href=\"http:\/\/flgetaplan.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">safety plan<\/a> so you and your family know what to do in case of an emergency. Visit the Florida Division of Emergency Management\u2019s website at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flgetaplan.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.flgetaplan.com<\/a> and complete an action plan. Some important things to remember:\n<ul>\n<li>Have at least five to seven days worth of non-perishable food and water on hand.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that you have extra prescription refills to last for three months.<\/li>\n<li>Secure copies of important documents like driver\u2019s license, passport, insurance information and bank account records.<\/li>\n<li>Be familiar with your nearest shelter (general shelters, special-needs shelters and pet- friendly shelters).<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t forget your pets! Make sure to have enough pet food and your pet\u2019s vaccination records.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Get Notifications and Stay Informed<\/strong>Download Orange County, Florida&#8217;s OCFL Alert, OCFL News and OCFL 311 <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ocfl.net\/mobile-apps-alerts\/\">mobile applications<\/a> for free on Apple and Android devices to receive emergency management communications and to stay informed before, during and after a storm.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>OCFL Alert<\/strong> is an emergency notification and information smartphone app that provides critical information during times of emergency.
