Discover Pine Hills: New Interactive Story Map Brings the Community’s History and Progress to Life

With a new LYNX bus superstation, recent roadway and pedestrian infrastructure improvements, and the completion of a major septic-to-sewer conversion project, it’s easy to spot signs of revitalization and progress during a drive through the Pine Hills community.

Now, you don’t have to leave your home to keep track of what’s happening within the Pine Hills Neighborhood Improvement District (PHNID).

Orange County’s Neighborhood Services Division has launched a new, interactive Pine Hills Story Map, giving residents an engaging way to explore the history of the PHNID, learn about projects shaping the community today and see what’s on the horizon for one of Orange County’s oldest and largest communities.

The story map highlights the evolution of Pine Hills and the work underway to support the community's continued growth and revitalization. And residents have an opportunity to help shape what comes next.

The Pine Hills NID is seeking input from community members after unveiling nine conceptual renderings during a public meeting in May. The renderings illustrate possibilities for the future of Pine Hills, including pocket parks, widened tree-lined streets, mixed-use developments featuring apartments, commercial and office space, and inviting outdoor gathering areas.

The renderings are conceptual and are not final plans. Residents and business owners are encouraged to review the ideas and share what they would like to see in the future of Pine Hills through Orange Se Involucra, the community engagement portal for Orange County’s Planning, Environmental and Development Services Department.

"As our Pine Hills commUNITY motto says, 'Many Cultures… One Bright Future," the renderings represent the true spirit, growth opportunities, resources and momentum of where we are headed," said Tamara Johnson, executive director of the Pine Hills Neighborhood Improvement District. "The story map gives residents a chance to see progress in one place while also looking ahead to what's possible. Most importantly, we want the people who live, work and do business in Pine Hills to be part of that conversation and help shape the community's future."

Pine Hills is a vibrant and diverse community rich in history, culture, and opportunity. Over the years, business owners, residents, community leaders, and local organizations have worked together to build a stronger future-one that honors the community's past while creating new opportunities for generations to come.

Since its creation in 2011, the Pine Hills Neighborhood Improvement District has served as a catalyst for revitalizing the local economy. Established by the Orange County Board of County Commissioners, the PHNID brings together public and private partners to strengthen local businesses, government agencies and non-profit organizations, improve infrastructure, support community investment, and promote a positive image of Pine Hills.
