Orange County Recognizes Drinking Water Week 2018 | National Week Salutes Essential Role Tap Water Plays

Orange County, Fla. – Drinking water and its benefits will be “on tap” countywide next week.

To support National Drinking Water Week 2018, May 6-12, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners will declare a proclamation at the May 8 meeting. In addition, Orange County Utilities will launch an awareness program about quality tap water highlighting that it is safe, reliable and inexpensive.

More than 100,000 water customers in unincorporated Orange County can turn on tap water with confidence. "Orange County Utilities constantly monitors drinking water and ensures that there is an adequate and high quality supply to meet the needs of the community every day," said Jacqueline Torbert, manager of the Orange County Utilities Water Division.

Tap water also provides:

  • Public health benefits – The water supply meets rigorous federal and state health protective standards.
  • Fire protection – If an emergency arises, accessible water pressure can save structures and even lives.
  • Support for the economy – Central Florida’s economic growth, including a robust tourism industry, thrives because of vital services like water.
  • Quality of life – Drinking water ultimately contributes to every aspect of the community.

Elements of the Drinking Water Week campaign can be viewed on Facebook y Twitter throughout the week using #OCFLTapWaterDelivers or #OCFLDrinkingWaterWeek.
