Orange County Begins Work on First Urban Forest Master Plan
Orange County, FL – Orange County has begun work on its first Urban Forest Master Plan, a long-term roadmap that will shape how trees are planted, protected and cared for across the County over the next 20-plus years. The plan will help guide tree-friendly design standards for neighborhoods, roadways, business centers, and other developed areas across Orange County.
The Urban Forest Master Plan is part of the County's "OC Loves Trees" program. Launched on Arbor Day 2026, "OC Loves Trees" was designed to inspire an appreciation for trees while protecting and expanding Orange County's tree canopy. A healthy urban forest provides benefits that residents experience every day, from creating shade and reducing heat to improving air quality, supporting wildlife and making neighborhoods greener and more inviting.
Community input will play an important role in shaping the plan. Residents are encouraged to use Orange Se Involucra, the County's community engagement portal, to share ideas, ask questions, provide feedback, and more. Residents can also subscribe to the project page to receive updates about the Plan and upcoming opportunities to get involved.
"Trees are an important part of what makes Orange County a great place to live, work and visit," said Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings. "As our community grows, we have an opportunity to protect our tree canopy while planning for the future. This master plan will help create a healthier, more resilient Orange County for generations to come, and we want our residents to help shape that vision."
The Urban Forest Master Plan is expected to be finalized in winter 2027. Para mayor información, visite https://engageorange.ocfl.net/urban-forest-master-plan
