Orange County Unveils New Mosquito Control Facility

Orange County, FL – Today, Orange County opened the doors to a new state-of-the-art Mosquito Control facility, marking a major step in protecting public health from mosquito-borne illnesses. Located at 6330 Silver Star Road in the Pine Hills community, the new facility replaces the former site on Conroy Road.

"This new workspace for the Mosquito Control team allows us to better respond to the needs of a growing community while enhancing our efforts to safeguard public health," said Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings. "By investing in modern infrastructure, we are improving our ability to prevent mosquito-borne disease and protect the quality of life for our residents."

The new location features a roof-mounted, 360-kilowatt solar array which will help generate power for the building and reduce operational costs, saving taxpayer dollars. Additional features include an expanded administrative space, improved maintenance bays, a larger warehouse area for storage, and a dedicated laboratory for mosquito surveillance and testing. A climate-controlled insectary allows staff to raise mosquitoes year-round, strengthening research and disease monitoring capabilities.

"Our mission is protecting public health," said Steve Harrison, manager for Orange County Mosquito Control. "We trap and test mosquitoes to identify trends and high-risk areas so we can respond quickly. Investing in mosquito control yields strong returns through prevention over response."
